When we started this journey we had a theory that when you buy a house no one is on your side. We could not have been more wrong. We are a big believer in Charlie Munger's quote:
"show me the incentives and I'll show you the outcome".
The more we studied the the process the more nuanced it became. Most professionals (think agents, lawyers, mortgage brokers, etc) don't want to take advantage of home buyers. Yes, there are exceptions, but by and large it's good people trying to do good work.
The system is set up in such a way where professionals get paid when a transaction closes. This means the the greatest tension between buyers and professional advisers is the speed of a deal. Buyers want to take the time to throughly understand what they are getting and professionals want to do a good job so they can move onto the next customer.
